Ingredients

Essential Ingredients
  • 1 cup quinoa (white, red, black, or tri-color) rinsed thoroughly in fine mesh
  • 1 ¾ cups water or low-sodium vegetable broth use 2 cups for softer grain; 1.75 cups for firm salad texture
  • ½ teaspoon fine sea salt enhances natural nutty flavor
  • 1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil or avocado oil optional, prevents sticking and grain clumping
Flavor Enhancers (Optional)
  • 1 clove garlic lightly smashed, removed after cooking
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice stirred in after cooking for bright zest

Method

Rinsing & Preparation
  1. Rinse the saponin: Place 1 cup of dry quinoa into a fine-mesh wire sieve. Rinse under cold running water for 30 to 45 seconds, gently rubbing with your fingers until water runs completely clear without soapy foam. Drain well.
  2. Add to cooker: Transfer the drained quinoa into the inner pot of your electric rice cooker. Pour in 1 ¾ cups of water or vegetable broth. Stir in ½ tsp salt and 1 tsp olive oil.
Cooking & Fluffing
  1. Start the cycle: Close the lid securely. Press "Cook" or select the standard "White Rice" cycle. The cooker will automatically simmer, absorb the liquid, and switch to "Keep Warm" in approximately 25 to 30 minutes.
  2. The 10-Minute Steam Rest: Do NOT open the lid immediately! Let the rice cooker sit on "Keep Warm" untouched for 10 minutes. This allows trapped steam to finish unfurling the tiny spiral germ halos.
  3. Fluff and serve: Open the cooker and fluff the quinoa gently with a silicone paddle or fork. Serve warm or cool for salads and grain bowls.
